President Obama will attend Copenhagen Conference

The Washington Post released an article this morning confirming that President Obama has decided to attend the climate change conference in Copenhagen on December 9th.  He has also committed to setting emissions goals while in Copenhagen.  This is a big step forward for the United States.  Many still worry whether China and India will attend or agree to reduce their emissions.  President Obama met will both of the leaders from China and India last week about climate change and they are both expected to release statements about their attendance at the conference soon.  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

  1. The US and China have finally announced real numbers for their targets to reduce carbon emissions. Unfortunately these numbers, especially from the US, are far too weak. We need a strong agreement at Copenhagen, but this won’t get us there. In many ways, a weak agreement at Copenhagen could be even worse than no agreement, as it would lock in targets too small to make a significant difference.
